Karla paints because it is her meditation. She feels about art as she does about life -- it is the song of the soul. She returned to painting in 2006, after having left it behind for 32 years.
Her paintings are meant to invoke a feeling of the unity of all creation. Each painting is inspired by observing life in its transcendent wonder. Each has a story, a lyric, or an idea, sometimes expressed in words as part of the painting.
Her teachers include the artist Susan Hodgin, who was her first art teacher who helped her take those first steps back into painting. Susan's art is nature's color as magic.
Chitra Ramanathan, an artist from India, inspired Karla to paint from her emotions. Chitra's artwork invokes emotions through her layering of color and texture.
Karla's influences also include the artist Carol Tharp-Perrin, whose live public art and dance performances empower an entire community.
Karla is a Kundalini Yoga teacher in Indianapolis.
